Artist Raquel Rodrigo Brings More Color To The Streets Of Madrid With Her Elegantly Designed Floral Cross-Stitch Patterns

If you think you’ve seen the best of street art, think again. We’ve seen a lot of stunning murals and spectacular graffiti that are mostly created using acrylic paints or spray paints. From simple graphics to three-dimensional murals, street art has indeed evolved through the years. But you probably haven’t seen a street art in the form of embroidery. Spanish artist Raquel Rodrigo, the creative mind behind ArquiCostura Studio, adorns the streets of Valencia with beautiful floral cross-stitch art installations.

Rodrigo’s floral cross-stitch art installations are truly a sight to behold. She makes every piece by employing the traditional cross-stitch method. But instead of aida/evenweave fabric, she uses a large-scale wire mesh. And instead of floss/thread, she uses thick rope-like strings. She wraps the thick rolls of string around the wire mesh, much like in the traditional cross-stitching. The results are massive embroidery masterpieces that are installed on the façade of urban buildings.

The Valencia-born artist prepares each piece in advance and then unrolls the piece at her chosen location. By combining the art of embroidery and street art, Rodrigo creates exquisite murals that are unlike any other. As street art keeps on evolving, Rodrigo further expands the horizon of the art with this fresh innovation. She has proven that street art can make use of any medium apart from the conventional paints. Furthermore, she also breaks the norm by bringing the beauty of embroidery to the outside scene. Traditionally, cross-stitch creations are used as interior decors. But Rodrigo has again proven that the art can be applied for exterior decorations too.
