Airbnb has redefined travel and has successfully upended traditional vacation by offering people a cheaper, easier, and relatively stress-free way to book accommodations. Furthermore, the online platform allows potential hosts to earn some income and maintain the flexibility to use their property at their convenience. While the company serves flexibility and affordability for both the host and the guest, it has a potential dark side too. Several stories about guests finding hidden cameras in rental properties have sparked controversy, raising concerns about the privacy and safety of guests.

Airbnb’s policy allows security cameras outdoors for security measures. If there are some security cameras on the property, the host should inform guests as to where these cameras are located. However, Airbnb prohibits the use of hidden spy cameras in bathrooms or anywhere guests plan to sleep. Despite the stated policy, the company could not possibly regulate its over 6 million listings worldwide. This explains why cases of unsafe conditions of privacy violation keep on rising.

Simple Tips On How To Spot Hidden Cameras In Airbnbs

how to find hidden cameras in airbnb

The potential risk of hidden cameras secretly recording your private or intimate moments inside a rental property is indeed scary. And since regulating this is impossible, we could only look after ourselves and ensure our safety in a stranger’s property. There are several ways to detect spy recording devices inside the room. Wi-Fi sniffing apps and handy detectors can help us find and locate spy recording devices. A viral video on TikTok also reveals that you can conveniently use your smartphone to inspect the room and detect spy cams.

On the video, TikTok user @malwaretech shared some useful tips on how to find hidden cameras in Airbnb using your smartphone. The clever hack involves using the flashlight functionality and the front facing camera of your phone. But first, you should know where to look for these spy devices. Take note that voyuers tend to install these rogue recording devices where they can clearly view your activities. Hence, these covert devices are likely to be simply hiding in plain sight.

A fire alarm, for example, is typically located right above the bed. This could be an ideal hiding place for a spy camera. An alarm clock sitting on the bedside table, mirrors in the bathroom, wall-mounted clocks facing the bed, lightbulbs, and outlets – anything that is pointing directly at the bed or shower should be thoroughly checked. The man who uploaded the video was able to find spy cameras in the fire alarm, alarm clock, and wall charger using his phone.

Everything changes with time – but we often overlook these changes because we’re too busy with living. Heck, we even fail to notice that we’re also changing. While photography allows us to capture a certain moment in time, a single picture alone sometimes isn’t enough to provide a visual comparison of how that certain moment have changed over the years. Good thing there’s a photography technique called rephotography. This process involves capturing the same imagery at two different moments in time to show change.

Initially used for surveying and scientific studies, rephotography technique is now being used to generate ‘then-and-now’ photos of places, buildings, natural landscapes, urban scenes, and even people. Today, computationally-assisted digital rephotography provides an easier and more fun way to process these ‘then-and-now’ photos. The re.photos website, for example, helps people to create and publish ‘before-and-after’ picture pair with an animated transition.

In order to produce a seamless transition for best comparison, you’ll need to approximate the original location and camera angle to capture the exact image from the original. Upload the photos on the website and specify the time the pictures were taken and the exact location. The website will then generate the ‘then-and-now’ pics with a smooth swiping transition showing the exact same scene at different points in time.

In the past, today’s Bolzstrasse was called Schlossstrasse. It was an extension of the Schlossstrasse, which still runs in S-Mitte and S-West today. Stuttgart’s first main train station was also located on this part of Schlossstrasse.

https://www.re.photos/en/compilation/5542/

Rue Fardel with its half-timbered houses, which are among the oldest in Saint-Brieuc, is one of the city’s main tourist spots. Before the Revolution, rue Fardel was one of the city’s most populated and commercial streets. Many families of the bourgeoisie and the nobility had their residence there. It also welcomed a population of artisans, merchants and workers.
From the end of the 19th century, the peak of the demolishers scattered the ranks of these ancient residences. The beautiful old houses of the 14th and 15th centuries which bordered it, left abandoned, soon fell into ruins. It was not until the 1960s that heritage defenders saved the last remains of old Saint-Brieuc from an announced demolition. Since the 1970s, the historic district has undergone a happy requalification and some half-timbered houses have regained their colors of yesteryear: blue, yellow, red … Since that time, the historic center has been popular with tourists who immortalize the facades of the old quarter or take advantage of the terraces of cafes and restaurants.

The MPs had to reach parliament by boats and makeshift jetties. There were heated discussions about whether Parliament sessions should continue or pause. Eventually the flood receded and life could return to normality.
Paris is still threatened by a potential flood today. The last flood happened in June 2016, although it did not come close to the one of then.

We all know that garage sales are sometimes filled with junk but you can find a few gems that could secretly worth a ton if you’re really lucky. We’ve previously featured the times when people have found the best bargains in yard sales. But this Wellington woman, who thought she had bought a beautiful paperweight in a yard sale, actually got herself something totally different.

On her Facebook post dated December 15, 2020, Jessica Roberts shared a rather utterly weird story about a particular paperweight she bought at a yard sale. She said that 5 years ago, she and her son were looking through a garage sale when she saw the heart-shaped item on display. Her son asked her to buy the decorative item so he could give it to her as a gift. She initially thought it was a pretty paperweight so she bought it for only $1.

Jessica Bought A Decorative Paperweight At A Yard Sale Not Knowing What It ‘Really’ Was

jessica roberts paperweight urn

Roberts had been using it as a paperweight since then. But 5 years later, she found a similar item on Amazon which was being sold for $30. Intrigued by it, she clicked on the listing and was shocked to discover that the item was actually a tiny urn designed to contain small amounts of cremated ashes. Terrified of the discovery, she turned to social media for some advice on what to do with the heart-shaped urn.

Jessica Roberts

One of the commenters said that it’s a picture frame that opens up to reveal a photo inside. She even suggested to open it up to see for herself. When Roberts unscrewed the back of it, she found a plastic bag inside. And her suspicion was confirmed when she saw the bag containing ashes. It wasn’t a paperweight nor a picture frame after all – it was an urn. Although she felt weirded out that someone would sell someone else’s memento, Roberts decided it was best to return it to whoever it belonged to.

Roberts Found A Plastic Bag Containing Ashes Inside The Heart-Shaped Urn

With the help of people on Facebook, her post was shared on various social media platforms to help find the owner of the urn. The local newspaper caught wind of it and featured her story to help the search. The day after the article was published, Roberts got a call from a man who claimed that the urn belonged to her wife who lost it a few years ago.

“His wife’s family had seen the post and recognized it as the missing piece to a matching set of urns containing the remains of his wife’s father. Years earlier, his wife had left an abusive partner who had kept her belongings out of spite. Somehow, this urn ended up in my hands and I had kept it safe for years without knowing how important it really was.”, Roberts explains.

Roberts also added that she had already met with the man to personally return the urn. On their meeting, the man told her that his wife didn’t know that he had found her father’s remains. And he’s planning to surprise her with it on Christmas Day. Roberts was more than happy to return the urn to its rightful owner and somehow made someone’s Christmas a lot more joyful.

People love to do strange things simply because they are bored or they’re just downright weird. But we can’t deny the fact that their quirkiness make the world a fun and exciting place to live in. Imagine living in a world full of ‘normal’ people. Yup, that would be very boring.

Human beings are endowed with common sense and this natural ability allows them to make good judgements and behave in a sensible manner. But despite having this inner faculty, people still tend to do strange things that can’t be explained logically. Making artificial hair made out of peanut butter, getting a haircut from a shirtless stranger in the park, a pickup truck miraculously sitting on top of a fence – these weird people are sure to leave anyone confused with their hilariously peculiar decisions.

People Doing Strange Things That Will Leave You Confused And Amused

But why would they do that? That’s certainly the question you’ll be asking when you see these photos of funny people doing some strange things that will put your common sense to the test. But can you really blame these people if they chose to act crazy? Well, normal day-to-day lives can get pretty dull and even tedious at times. Seeing people trying to do the unimaginable is actually a breath of fresh air. We honestly think we need more people like them.

“I found something worse than socks and sandals.”

“Third into fourth always gives me trouble…”

It’s normal to hope or even expect that things will always go our way. Unfortunately, that’s simply not how life works. And as much as we want to keep Lady Luck by our sides, she just often wanders off without prior notice. Well, a lot of people can certainly attest to that. And these photos of things gone wrong are proof that not every day is bound to be a good day.

From burning your tongue, spilling your coffee to stepping on your pet’s poop, and more, a lot of things can indeed go wrong in just a single day. But with nearly eight billion people in the world, it’s only safe to assume that some people are having it worse than you. So, if today hasn’t been kind to you, we hope you’ll find comfort in knowing that you are not alone.

“One thing I won’t ever do again is build a snow dalek. I did that when we lived at our old house as the kids were into Dr Who. I learnt that when snowdaleks start to melt, they upset the neighbours”

“I wouldn’t be going home after that”

“Friend of mine posted this photo of the job site today”

“When you realize yeast doesn’t stop working just because it’s in a dumpster!”

“I have lost one piece of this 2000 pieces puzzle”

An Honest Mistake

“To whoever dumped their old bedframe by TJ’s in Hyde Park, choose a less windy day next time so it doesn’t get stuck to the side of my house pls xoxoxo”

“Hiked two hours to set up a picnic, returned to this”

“3 am snack”

“Honey…”

“When sausage rolls go wrong…”

In fact, instead of sulking, other people are even sharing their stories of misfortune online. And while it’s wrong to delight in other people’s misery, their stories will definitely make you feel a little less awful about your current situation. But if you’re just as “lucky” as them, then you’ve probably experienced the same tragedy at one point in your life. Apparently, there are some lessons in life which we ought to learn the hard way. And more often than not, we have no control over these things.

“My brother, on the ride home from picking up his new puppy.”

“I paid $6 to have two slices of American Cheese delivered to my door.”

“Whipped myself into a frustrated rage trying to find my drill for half an hour.”

“Apparently he’s allergic to almost everything on the allergy skin test. Some of it was so swollen the doctor could barely tell which was which.”

“I have no choice but to teach him how to drive”

“My dad’s old truck got hit by a truck carrying old rotten potato slurry to a feedlot for cows. His passenger window was down…”

“Lost my wallet 3 days ago, finally ordered new cards and then…”

“Was looking forward to having some nice bread from a local bakery”

“The printer exploded…”

“Somebody didn’t strap the egg trolleys in properly on the truck. 10,500 eggs broken”

These photos of things gone wrong are proof that not every day is bound to be a good day

“I cleaned the cat’s litter box and brought the bag with me to throw away in my outdoor trash can on the way to work. I also brought my lunch. Guess which one got thrown away and which one came to work with me.”

“It’s just a little ice, it’s fine.”

“Aaaand there go my $300 headphones”

“His wedding venue was double-booked with a furry convention”

However, you can definitely control how you react to these things. So, after a few minutes of ranting about how terrible your day was, move on, and just take it as a lesson. We know, it’s easier said than done, so it’s okay even if you take a while to adopt this mindset. In the meantime, you might want to learn from other people’s experiences to avoid making the same mistake.

We surely won’t wish these disasters even upon our worst enemies!

“There was an attempt to transport corn”

“When you try to bake a rainbow cake and it ends up looking like a unicorn’s a**hole”

“Well, friends. This is what came in the mail. I’m gonna need something else, please.”

“I went back to the apartment and they screwed up the whole bathroom”

“This is the worst picture ever taken of me”

“Forgot my headphones on the ground while the Roomba was running”

“I need a file lost in this room”

“My friend works as an extra in movies and does stock photography… just saw him pictured as a sex offender on a bus in Florida”

“My daughter – Class of 2020”

“Priest accidentally live-streams mass with hat and sunglasses filter on”

“My cat just came back from one of her evening strolls with someone else’s keys in her mouth”

“Now we know who the favorite child is”

“Our puppy had explosive diarrhea all over my wife”

“It was a great day till this moment”

“This happened to my car today!”

“Guess who’s severely allergic to hair dye? This girl!”

“I accidentally put my leather gloves in the washing machine”

California gem collector Mike Bowers shared a video on Instagram showing one of his most interesting collections. It was an egg-shaped agate seamlessly split into two, but the biggest surprise was when he revealed what’s inside the gemstone. Hidden inside was a very familiar face that bears a striking resemblance to Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. The short video itself was accompanied by the Muppet character’s song ‘C is for Cookie’.

The fascinating agate was discovered by gemologist Lucas Fassari in the Rio Grande do Sul Region of Brazil. Agates are gemstones that are primarily formed in cavities of volcanic rocks. Typically used in pieces of jewelry and decoration, the rock’s rich colors and mesmerizing band patterns make it so pleasing to the eye. Agates come in many different shapes, colors, and patterns but it’s rare to see a rock formation that resembles Cookie Monster, and so well-defined at that.

Unusual Agate Rock Bears A Striking Resemblance To Cookie Monster

It’s no secret that agates are one of the most beautiful gemstones. But a cartoonish-looking one is actually rare. So, when Bowers saw the unusual agate from Brazil, he knew he had to have it. As you can see from the video, the split open rock has the face of Cookie Monster on both sides. The blue face, googly eyes, and the cookie-hungry mouth – the resemblance is truly uncanny. Even the legendary Muppet character himself approves of it by retweeting the photo on his official Twitter page.

Many people have been asking Bowers if he’s considering to sell the Cookie Monster agate. In fact, he has been offered $10,000 and even higher to sell the unique stone to them. Despite the overwhelming offers, Bowers decided to keep the rare find to himself.

In 2012, militant groups allied to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghrib (AQIM) seized the north of Mali, destroying shrines and anything they deemed haram or forbidden based on their harsh interpretation of Islamic principles. Aside from causing unrest in the region, these attacks also endangered the country’s valuable collection of historical manuscripts.

For Abdel Kader Haidara, founder of the Mamma Haidara Library in Timbuktu, these ancient literary works are crucial in preserving Mali’s cultural heritage. So, without hesitation, he took on the mission of protecting the manuscripts from falling into the hands of terrorist groups. With the help of his nephew Touré, who was also a curator at the library, Haidara scoured the city for metal trunks and drums to use as containers for the manuscripts.

In 2012, Abdel Kader Haidara spearheaded the rescue operation of 350,000 historical manuscripts against Islamist militant groups

Haidara and his team managed to gather 350,000 manuscripts from 45 different libraries in the city. As if operating in secret wasn’t already challenging enough, they also had to pack the manuscripts in the dark, as the jihadists had cut off the power within the city.

It took them over nine months to successfully transport the manuscripts from Timbuktu to Bamako for safekeeping

Along the way, they faced multiple fines, arrests, harassments, and even threats to their lives. Nevertheless, they kept persevering, all for the sake of preserving Mali’s cultural heritage.

Since 2014, efforts to reconstruct and rehabilitate the city’s libraries and mausoleums have commenced with the help of UNESCO. Likewise, digitization of the evacuated manuscripts is still ongoing up to this day, courtesy of the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library (HMML).

“Timbuktu Communities have regained confidence, the hope of living and lasting peace through the reconstruction of mausoleums, rehabilitation of libraries and safeguarding of manuscripts. The project has contributed to job creation, poverty reduction, revitalization of socio-cultural practices of Timbuktu communities which is essential for peace keeping and reconciliation.”—Abdel Kader Haidara

Warm weather is to be expected in summer season. But what makes the summer of 2021 different is that temperatures are forecasted to go above-normal. This means summer heatwaves are to be expected and are likely to affect much of Western North America. The current air temperature anomalies is what causes the extreme heat we’re experiencing right now. While summer peak typically occurs in late July, hottest weather this year could peak in late August or early September. So, expect the temperature to increase for the next days.

The summer heatwaves are so brutal and unbearable as they are now. This phenomenon has affected several states in the United States as well as some parts of Canada. It has resulted in some of the highest temperatures ever recorded in Canada and US states including Washington, Oregon, and California. In order to show the devastating effects of this phenomenon, people from affected regions are sharing photos of how they’re dealing with the excessively hot weather. Finding clever ways to keep their pets cool, cooking steak on a truck dashboard, slippers melting on a hot pavement, people and animals taking refuge in shaded areas, and many more.

People Around The World Are Sharing How They’re Dealing With Summer Heatwaves

“Shop owner lets kittens sleep on top of freezer. It is kinda hot in Turkey.”

Not just in Western North America, other parts of the world are also experiencing record-high temperatures associated with the current summer heatwaves. Australia, Turkey, Thailand, Egypt, London, Netherlands, Belgium, Korea, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Brazil – these are only few of the countries affected by the extreme weather event that climate experts conclude only happens 1-in-1000 years. The record-smashing heat has been linked to the effects of climate change.

“How We Beat The Heat In Australia. Ice Cold Can On A Warm Belly”

Greenhouse gases are poised to make heatwaves more intense and more frequent as they are the cause of an abnormal weather pattern known as a heat dome. Within a heat dome, hot air is forced to rise but is then trapped and forced back toward the ground, compressing and heating up the air even more. The process is repeated over and over, with the air getting hotter and hotter as the cycle continues.

Summer heatwaves may not sound as destructive as hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes. But this phenomenon is actually the deadliest weather-related event to ever strike the planet. Consequences include extensive wildfires, heat stroke, water shortages, and damage to crops, livestock, roads and rail infrastructure.

“Nature In The Shadow Of Technology”

How To Beat The Summer Heatwaves?

There are plenty of ways to survive a heatwave. Hydration is essential to keep your body cool in hot weather so drink plenty of water. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and avoid strenuous activity to avoid exhaustion and dehydration. Stay in the coolest available place and avoid too much sun exposure. And look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool in scorching heat such as children, pets, and older people.

Change can be a fascinating thing and these things that are worn down over time just show how time is ineluctable. As the popular quote goes – change is the only constant thing in this world. Indeed, nothing is permanent in this world and everything is subject to change, living and non-living things alike. People grow old, living things perish, and non-living things deteriorate over time. It’s the inevitable cycle of life.

Just as people can leave memories and their legacies behind after they’ve passed away, inanimate objects that are worn down by time can also leave their own interesting stories behind. As surviving reminders of the past, they are long-standing mementos that remind us of the invincible force of time. Despite the decrepitude, these things reveal the beauty of their perennial existence that has endured years of human usage, weather, friction, gravity, and the powerful forces of nature.
