Early this year, a video shared on Instagram showing a homeless man throwing a dog birthday party for his canine buddy went viral. The scene was captured on camera by a person who happened to pass by a local park in Bucaramanga, Colombia. On the three-minute-long video clip, the homeless guy is seen sitting on the steps of a park together with his two dogs. With the two lovely doggos wearing party hats, it’s easy to assume that someone’s having a very special day. The man then brought out a cake from a plastic bag, placed two candles on it and lighted it up before he started singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the dark-colored dog.

Even without a clear audio or subtitles, it’s very clear to everyone what’s happening on the video clip. One of the dogs is having a birthday and the homeless guy is throwing a party for his loyal companion. It was indeed a heartwarming moment but what happened next is what melted everyone’s heart. After singing the birthday song, the man blew up the candles and kissed both of his doggos before slicing up the cake into tiny pieces for the three of them. Watching his dogs dig into the birthday treat, the man can be seen breaking down in tears.

 

This Viral Video Showing A Homeless Guy Throwing A Dog Birthday Party For His Loyal Companions

The witness shared the touching video on Instagram and it quickly became one of the most trending videos on several social media platforms. Interested about the man on the viral video, local media tried their best to contact him to know more about him. Local residents who frequent the park say that the man on the video was a street dweller named Choko who is always seen accompanied by his two furry dogs named Shaggy and Nena. Local media and bloggers were able to find him for some interviews. Unaware of his viral video, Choko woke up in surprise one morning when he saw a lot of people around asking him for an interview.

At first, Choko thought he had done something wrong for the sudden ‘interrogation’. But when they showed him the video, he realized that he is obliged to share details of that heartwarming moment that would later change his life. Choko Jose Luis Matos left his home years ago to escape the constant abuse and mistreatment from his abusive mother. He had been living on the streets of Colombia since then. Life on the streets is harsh and every single minute of it was a struggle. But no matter how difficult it is, Choko never resorted to stealing or any illegal acts.

 

Choko Left His Home At An Early Age To Escape Mistreatment From His Abusive Mother

After working as a fisherman in Barrancabermeja for years, he decided to move to Bucaramanga to work as a glass cleaner. When he was sitting at a park one day and just when hopelessness started eating him up, he met a stray dog and named her Nena. The dog came as a ray of new hope for him and Nena’s companionship motivated him to fight for life. Four years later, he rescued Shaggy from his previous owner who wanted to get rid of him.

 

His Dogs Nena And Shaggy Served As His Only Hope In Life

Choko has always been with his two dogs since then and they’re not just pets for him – they’re his family. Came Shaggy’s birthday, Choko was planning to surprise him with a chicken quarter but he simply couldn’t afford it. As if it was a blessing, he saw a woman trying to throw away a cake and stopped her. He asked if he could have the cake instead, which the woman did. After buying some candles, he picked up some plates and a knife, thoroughly cleaned them, and went to the park with his dogs to celebrate Shaggy’s birthday party.

His uplifting story touched the hearts of many people. Donations came pouring in for Choko and his dogs from various parts of the world. Choko has an Instagram page which he created in 2019. After the viral video, his number of followers skyrocketed to 187k as of this writing. Choko was grateful to the person who recorded the birthday party and shared it online. He acknowledges the fame and the worldwide support he’s receiving to finally afford a home and food – not just for Nena and Shaggy – but for other street dogs in need of help.

“In so many years living on the street I was never alone,” Matos shares, “my dogs were always there to bring joy to many sad days and now together we are going to help many who need us!”

If you’re a cat owner, then you surely already know that felines are no exception when it comes to shedding. In fact, most breeds shed every day, with some breeds shedding particularly heavier during spring in preparation for summer. While it’s common practice to simply dispose of feline fur, one cat parent thought of repurposing it and turning it into cat slippers.

Adorable kitty Minira from Japan has recently gone viral for sporting chic and cozy footwear. In a photo shared by Minira’s owner, the feline is captured wearing a pair of tiny slippers, which features her face on each piece. But what’s even more interesting is that the pair is actually made of the feline’s fallen fur.

 

Apparently, the scales on the shafts of cat hair make it a viable addition or even substitute to wool when it comes to needle felting. Since felting involves a great deal of friction, the presence of these scales makes it possible for the strands to interweave with each other. During the process, the interwoven strands then form a dense felt that you can finally mold into different shapes.

 

 

These tiny cat slippers are a great way to repurpose your feline’s fallen fur

Grooming your cat with a slicker brush is the easiest and fastest way to gather hair for your felting project. You can also scour your fur baby’s favorite spots at home to collect more fallen fur. Ideally, you’ll want to wash all accumulated fur first before using it to remove any traces of saliva from your cat’s own grooming rituals.

 

Be sure to place the fur inside a mesh bag before washing to prevent it from agitating prematurely. You can then wash it gently with lukewarm water and a bit of shampoo or dish soap. As much as possible, avoid rubbing, squeezing, or wringing the mesh bag during washing.

 

You can simply let it soak for a few minutes to remove any unwanted odor. To rinse it, just dip the bag in a bowl of clean water, and replace the water once it becomes soapy. Repeat the process until the water remains clear after dipping. Afterward, remove the fur from the bag and lay it out on a towel to dry.

 

Once the fur is dry, it’s ready for hand carding. Although you can generally use the same felting techniques, do note that cat hair may yield shorter fiber strands than typical wool roving. So, you can either choose to create a small project or accumulate more hair to accommodate a bigger project. Likewise, you can blend in some wool for your convenience.

Settling into your new home can be particularly challenging, especially once you find out you’ve got some noisy neighbors around. Such was the case for Tango Steinke who discovered a crow family that had built a nest behind her new home in Virginia. But instead of driving them away, she didn’t hesitate to befriend them in the best way she knew how.

Making friends with these mysterious birds is no easy feat. Luckily, Steinke knew her way around feeding stray animals. Apparently, she has been feeding the birds and squirrels that have been frequenting her home. So, when she spotted the crow couple, whom she later named Doc and Dottie, she decided to do the same.

She built a small perch from her balcony where she would leave peanuts and other treats for the crows to feast on. Steinke’s efforts surely didn’t go unnoticed. And when winter came, and food sources became scarce, the couple knew they can turn to their neighbor for some help. Aside from visiting her more often, Steinke revealed that Doc and Dottie had become more comfortable towards her.

Crow family brings gifts to their kind neighbor who has been generously feeding them

Eventually, the crow couple figured it was time for them to express their gratitude towards their kind neighbor. They started giving thank you gifts to officially seal their unexpected yet heartwarming friendship with Steinke. Steinke has then taken to TikTok to share some of the random gifts she has received from her newfound friends, including a worn and gray pebble.

Dogs don’t live as long as humans – it is a sad fact that pet owners have to accept and cope with. There are general lifespan guidelines for each breed but the average lifespan of a dog is between 10 and 15 years. Some dogs, however, live much longer as is the case for Skippy who is now popularly known as the ‘oldest dog in Ireland’. The black and white Border Collie is said to be 26 years old as his owner claims. In case you’re wondering how old this canine is, his age is equivalent to human age between 130 and 145 years.

According to the Guinness World Records, the oldest reliable age recorded for a dog is 29 years which is held by an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey. The record-holder was born in 1910 and died on 1939 after working as a herding dog for almost 30 years. Skippy has the best shot at breaking the world record as he will be turning 27 this year. His owner, 84-year-old Pat Geraghty from Belmullet, County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland, claims he obtained the Border Collie from a breeder in the summer of 1995. Unfortunately, Geraghty doesn’t hold any official records to confirm the dog’s exact age, making it impossible to verify his claim.

The only supporting evidence they have are the testimonies by their neighbors who remember Skippy as a puppy on Geraghty’s farm in the 1990s. One of Geraghty’s neighbor is photojournalist Fergus Sweeney who tweeted a photo of Geraghty and Skippy along with the claim that the dog was born in 1996. The Twitter post drew skepticism from social media users, many of whom are asking for official records to prove the claim. Others even say it’s unbelievable for a dog that age to be in great condition.

On another post, Sweeney said that the closest he could verify is another neighbor who remembers Skippy chasing their car some 20 years ago. Despite ‘looking good’ on the pictures, Geraghty revealed that his senior farm dog could barely stand up on his own and has lost his hearing. For working as a dependable farm dog for nearly 30 years, age is apparently catching up to him. But his human is committed to return the favor for his dog’s loyalty and unfailing service as a herding dog.

“We’re good buddies,” says his human. “It’s my turn to look after him now, you know. He’s been good to me when he’s had his health but he’s down and out now and I have to give him water four times a day and feed him three times a day—but I don’t mind.”

For having something so pure and so loyal, what did we ever do to deserve dogs? Aside from giving them cuddles and care (and treats, of course), our canine companions won’t ask for anything more from us. As a way to pay tribute to all the good bois and good girls, the Twitter account We Rate Dogs is made just for them. The page is dedicated to reward all the adorable doggos and pups with points and praises that they deserve.

As the name suggests, the Twitter account has moderators who like to call themselves ‘professional dog raters’. They are akin to a panel of judges in a dog show where they assess and evaluate all the canine contestants. Based on a certain criteria, they will give scores to each contestant which ultimately determines the winner. But in We Rate Dogs, there are no losers, only winners.

 

People Are Asking This  Twitter Account To Rate Their Dogs

If you want to know how your pooch would score in the eyes of these ‘professional raters’, simply send them a photo of your dog along with a clear introduction. The submission is subject to review and the mods may ask for more details if they find it necessary. Of course, you’ll need to follow the page to keep updated whether they’d feature your submission or not.

 

 

The We Rate Dogs mods usually give scores on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest. But most of the times, the dogs are just so adorable that they are truly worthy of a score exceeding the perfect 10. In addition to the cute pictures of dogs, the mods also attach witty captions to bring smiles to every dog lover who reads the posts.

 

 

Created by Matt Nelson in November 2015, the Twitter account We Rate Dogs currently has over 9 million followers. The idea of rating dogs first came when he was having dinner with a friend at a restaurant. His friend came with a puppy and he just thought of taking a pic to share the cuteness on Twitter. Shortly after, the account has received hundreds of messages asking him to rate their dogs too. What sound do bears make when they’re happy? A short video posted on Twitter, which has become viral, captured a rare moment showing bear cubs eating apples. While it’s common to see videos of bears munching sweet juicy fruits, the purpose of this particular video is to capture something else – the sound they make while enjoying a yummy treat.

The video was shared by US-based screenwriter and animal lover John Fusco. When he brought a huge pile of apples for the orphaned black bear cubs at Kilham Bear Center in New Hampshire, the adorable furballs feasted on the fruits and had the time of their lives. And when the young bears made an endearing sound while they’re eating their hearts out, Fusco didn’t miss the chance to record the moment.

 

Bear Cubs Eating Apples Make Adorable Pleasure Sound

On the video, you can see the bear cubs eating and digging through a pile of apples while making a motor-like pleasure sound. Fusco describes it as the ‘sound of contentment’. Similar to a cat’s purring, bears make this sound when they are especially happy and excited. And you can really say they greatly appreciate the treat. On the last part of the video, one of the cubs even approached Fusco and let him pet it.

Of course, you can never do this to bear cubs in the wild. Fusco always remind people that these rescued baby black bears are raised in captivity which explains why they are friendly to people.

After rehabilitation and after they’ve grown up enough to take care of themselves, these orphaned bears will be released back to their natural habitat. The interesting video footage of bear cubs eating apples and cooing with delight melted the hearts of people on Twitter. Much like dinosaurs, the dodo birds no longer exist in this world but their presence are still perpetuated in popular culture. We may never have the chance to see a dodo bird in this lifetime. But luckily for us, we still have the chance to see the closest living relative to the famous dodo bird – the Nicobar pigeon. Although these beautiful pigeons are related to the extinct flightless bird of Mauritius Island, these two looked nothing alike.

Dodo birds are characterized by their bulbous beak, dull greyish plumage, and portly frame. The Nicobar pigeon, on the other hand, has thin pointed beak, vibrant plumage, and a compact frame. Considered one of the most beautiful species of pigeons, these island birds have dark slate grey body with iridescent blue-green and copper-bronze upperparts. Their lustrous feathers are further glamorized with glistening neck hackles and contrasting white tail.

The Nicobar Pigeon Is The Closest Living Relative To The Dodo Bird

These beautiful birds are found on small islands of Nicobar in India. They developed their vibrant iridescent plumage due to the lack of natural predators on the small islands. Since there’s no need to camouflage themselves against predators, they were able to develop colorful, dazzling feathers that made them stand out from other species of pigeons or doves.

Aside from the fact that both species are island birds, the other thing that makes the Nicobar pigeon similar to the dodo bird is its inclination towards extinction. Sadly, these spectacular ground-dwelling birds are listed as ‘near threatened’ due to hunting, habitat loss, and the introduction of non-native predators like cats and rats to their breeding islands. Take note that these were the same reasons the dodo birds disappeared from nature three hundred years ago. Are we going to commit the same mistake again?

Whether it’s fashion, nature, food, or documentary – everyone has their own favorite photography genre. And if you’ve spent much time on Twitter, you’ve probably discovered the latest photography genre that you’re most likely be obsessing with right now. Photos of dogs doing class work are winning over Twitter and it’s easy to see why. Adorable pups and doggos reading some books, working on a computer, and reviewing some notes are just the cutest things ever.

It all started when Professor Marie-Amelie George asked her students to send photos of their dogs doing class work. You might remember that most workers and students are compelled to work-from-home and study-at-home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While many people struggled to adopt the sudden transition, pets on the other hand, had the time of their lives because their humans didn’t need to leave the house anymore. And that means staying with their beloved owners 24/7.

 

Funny Photos Of Dogs Doing Class Work

Many people shared amusing photos of their pets trying to distract them from their work and homework. Because dogs often imitate some of the behaviors and body movements of their owners, photos of them trying to read some books and joining Zoom meetings have taken over social media. In an attempt to start off her class with a note of levity, Dr. George asked her students to send in pictures of their dogs doing class work in which her students gladly obliged. The post, which was initially intended for her students, later blew up into a trending thread with the entire internet joining in.

“I probably now have a collection of maybe 60 dogs,” says the university professor. “Some are at the computer. Some are reading…I do see—slightly fewer—but some cats, and I have a great picture of a hermit crab who is studying hard as well.”

 

 

Shortly after, the thread wasn’t just limited to dogs. Proud pet owners also shared pics of their cats, guinea pigs, and even a turtle trying to do their class work too. Interestingly, not all of these study buddies are fond of doing homework. Some of them are caught napping and even playing video games instead of working on their assignments. This new photography genre indeed is our new favorite.
